Hope

Today the day has risen under a red sky. “Red sky in the morning, sheperds warning” says the old proverb. And yes, it is raining, maybe in my part of the world but that's enough to see the world under a new light.

Hope has always been for me a word that conveys two possibilites rather than one. It is a word like “maybe” in my eyes. Maybe good shall come, maybe bad shall come. Like a flip of the coin, like a roll of the barrel. Inexorably the possibilities surge forwards and consideration isn't always given equally to both. You may live your life candidly but I assure you pessimism is right behind your back.

But you shouldn't. Doom is only doom if absolutely no possibilities lie awaiting. The legions of Israel may not crush the Palestinian state into a cake of blood and mortar; the Palestinian student who courageously filmed scenes of his home town lying in rubble and grief may live yet to see peace in his state: factors come and go yet leave their mark on what is to come.

Maybe the so called Land of God's Children shall never see other days than those whence it's land is soiled by the blood of the innocent and guilty. Maybe Shalom and Assalamu Alaikum shall never come.

The power of possibility is what makes the world go round and people around the world. Never will we see the other side to a possibility. Life is full of them, and some lead to a place where there are none. Be careful and watch your step.
